Girlfriends, Curls, and Cocktail Hour—Tracee Ellis Ross Just Gave Us the Hair Commercial We Deserve
It’s giving curls, cocktails, and culture, darling!

Let me start with a confession—I didn’t grow up watching Girlfriends. I know, don’t revoke my Black card just yet. It wasn’t until my late twenties that I finally sat down and binged the whole thing, wide-eyed and regretful I hadn’t been soaking in all that Black woman brilliance sooner. And now, with PATTERN Beauty’s first-ever brand commercial dropping, featuring the original cast, I feel like the universe just gave me a second chance to live out the cultural moment I missed. And baby, I’m grabbing it with both moisturized hands.
In case you haven’t seen it (fix that immediately), Tracee Ellis Ross has officially stepped into her next role: Chief CURLtender. That’s right. In this vibrant, joy-soaked commercial for PATTERN Beauty, Ross serves up juicy hydration and customized product “cocktails” to none other than her iconic Girlfriends co-stars: Golden Brooks, Jill Marie Jones, and Persia White. The commercial is set in a textured hair lounge, and yes, it’s giving bounce, shine, and sisterhood with a side of nostalgia.
Let’s be real—this isn’t just a product promo. This is an act of cultural service. It’s a love letter to Black hair rituals, the sacred art of hair cocktailing (you know we mix a little bit of this gel with that cream and top it off with oil like it’s Sunday brunch), and the everyday magic of shared hair stories. And what better way to deliver it than with the cast that gave us friendship goals before social media was even a thing?
In this commercial, she offers tailored product cocktails to each patron (including her Girlfriends), emphasizing that PATTERN is for all of us—whether you’ve got coils, locs, tight curls, or you’re out here rockin’ a fade.
Honestly? I got emotional watching it. There’s something powerful about seeing women who look like us—who are us—taking up space, looking fly, and celebrating the beauty of our textures without apology. This isn’t just representation—it’s restoration.
Also, let me go ahead and say it: WE NEED A GIRLFRIENDS REBOOT MOVIE. I’m talking big-screen energy, box braids and business drama, brunch dates and breakdowns—wrapped in luxury and sealed with a bold lip. If this commercial is the appetizer, I’m ready for the main course. Someone call Mara Brock Akil, immediately.
Now excuse me while I go layer my curl mousse, styling custard, and jojoba oil like I’m being served by the Chief CURLtender herself.
With love (and flawless curls),
Larry 💅🏽✨
